As Clamps manufacturer,we receive a same question from many customers. Why the nuts of V-band clamps are silver plated? This is a really very good question. When I first to work on V band clamps,Iam also curious and have same question.
V-band clamps are always made by stainless steel 304 or 316. Austenitic stainless steel has advantage of anti-corrosion,strength and toughness. But when the nut tighten with screw,Mechanical energy is converted into heat energy. The temperate will be very high.The nut and screw are easliy “stick” together. The clamps can’t be installed or disassembly.
Silver plated can solve this question.
- Silver has excellent lubrication and wear resistance
- Silver’s heat dissipation is much better than stainless steel.
So silver plated nuts can solve screw stick and make clamps more durable.
